Cure for Cold Sores

Our Harry has suffered for the last 3-4 years with terrible cold sores! The first few times they flared up, he obsessed with the itchy pain so much that he literally had several dime sized holes in his lip! I was called to pick him up from school when he broke them open and they wouldn't stop bleeding. In fact, a few of those times I actually had to give him a prescription drug to knock him out during the day to allow them to stop bleeding and start to heal. He missed an entire week of school two different times with 3-4 cold sores at once, and with the infection that set in. The severity of the situation really came from the autism and not understanding that he couldn't pick at them.

You either carry the herpes simplex 1 virus or you don't. Cold sores occur when latent herpes simplex virus particles, which have been lying dormant in your body, become reactivated.

But I've found something that has actually prevented the virus from reactivating! It's the essenital amino acid, L-lysine. Since giving Harry 2000 mgs of lysine daily, he has not had one cold sore! And prevention is so much nicer than healing one! L-lysine is an all natural stress fighter and is essential for boosting your immune system. We get all of our dietary supplements from Swanson Health Products, in case you need any great, high quality stuff!

  1. Hi Betsy
My son suffered from cold sores when he was a teenager and we too found L-ysine worked very well! He also learned not to get too much sun or too little sleep as both would trigger an outbreak.
Abreva is an otc cream that helps decrease the severity of an outbreak and works well too.

  2. Pat ~ it's wonderful! Our problem with Harry is that he wouldn't tell us when he would feel one...and sometimes they would be inside his mouth where I wouldn't notice until they were out of control. This has just been in the teen years, too...must be a connection there with the immune system.

  4. Thank you so much for this info. I used to suffer from cold sores. I got vira-medx (at that time, it was only sold online, not sure about now). It actually prevents cold sores if you apply at the first tingle. Not only that, my cold sores dramatically reduced and then virtually disappeared since I started using it. The information you've given here is very helpful I think I will buy some of this stuff. Although it's been years since my last cold sore, I do live in awareness that one could appear at any time. Thanks so much Betsy!!

  5. By the way, viramed-x also clears them up super fast if you can't get to them before they appear...

  7. Yep, L-ysine works for my husband, too. Although now he like to use Abreva if he actually has one break out.

  8. Lavinia ~ since lysine is supposed to be so good at boosting your immune system, I think I'm going to have our whole family take it through the cold season. Maybe we could all stay healthier!
