We've Blown Away!

Who would have thought Hurrican Ike would affect us in Ohio so much! But we lost power due to 78 MPH winds on Sunday and our little village looked like a war zone with power lines down and many, many trees laying over the roads. School was cancelled yesterday and today. Power just came on last night as we were climbing into bed by candlelight....again. We lost our nice big shade tree....I always hate to loose trees! My computer didn't come back up so I'm on the hubby's work laptop for a moment to catch up. Hopefully we will be back to normal soon. In the meantime.... desperately need a hot shower, to do laundry, dishes....and see if anything is
salvagable in the freezer. Will check back soon!
****UPDATE*****
Well, I've now had a hot shower, hot breakfast and coffee and a 30
minute conversation with a nice but hard to understand
Dell man in India, so the computer is running again.
Things are looking up! ....with a new appreciation for electricity!
We're just thankful we didn't have rain or a
26 foot ocean water surge with it! :)

  1. Oh Dear! So sorry to hear that!!! Ike blew up as far north as us, too. But it was beneficial...he blew all that hot muggy weather away and now its crisp cool and dry....

Being without electricity is THE WORST....I hope it comes back on very soon for you Betsy!!

  2. What a mess. Funny how I can live so close to the gulf coast and see none of Hurricane Ike, while you, way off in the heartlands get shaken till your bones rattle!

  5. I'm so sorry! I feel kind of guilty, I live in FL and all we got from Ike was tons of rain. I hate losing trees too, we lost ours in Hurricane Wilma. I so empathize with what you are going through, but like you I'm surprised it reached that high up. I pray things will be better soon.

  6. Out of all the thigns you LOSE with power loss, I hate hot water loss the most. I can live on crackers and drink tepid water. I CANNOT TAKE A COLD SHOWER.

I will pray that you get power back soon. And I am real sorry to hear about your tree.

  13. Wow, that Ike was determined to wreck havoc wasn't he? I'm glad that tree didn't come down on your house and you are all safe.

  14. I saw on the news that you guys got hammered. What a strange thing to have that kind of wind from a devastating storm on the Gulf Coast. Glad all is well with you and the family.

  15. Strider ~ it was strange! We usually get rain from the gulf hurricanes but not destruction like this! Many around us still don't have power yet!

  16. That was a big tree. That is strange to have Ike come all the way up there. I'm glad you guys are safe. I wonder how many years it took for that pretty tree to get that big and then boom down it goes in a storm. I'm also so glad you got your computer back working.

  17. Trish ~ we planted that tree 20 years ago...it was just a twig back then! It's always sad to loose a big one! :(

  18. I am so sad for the loss of your tree, having recently baught a home, and planted some baby tree's myself, (a Holly the week Holly was born, amoung others) I could not image 5-10-20 years down the road loosing it, after watching her growth and its together.

  20. Vicki ~ hi and welcome! Yes, it's always sad to loose a tree! We planted a tree when our first son was born...a pear tree...they are somewhat fragile and I was surprised that it didn't come down!
    It's a nice tradition, isn't it?....planting a tree at the birth of a child. :)

  23. Why are all the techs in other countries?ha
I did get one in US recently and he asked permission to take over my computer and fix my problems,,,which I happily granted,,,he worked about an hour and got me back in good shape! Good ole Dell!

  24. Nanny~ I had a Dell guy "take over" my computer once, too...funny to see your mouse move without you, huh! But it's wonderful when they fix it for you!

  25. Sorry you had trouble from the hurricane, Betsy! A lot of people had trouble getting out to San Diego for the convention we were at last week because of the bad weather everywhere.

I hope all is well now. That poor tree!

  26. Your poor tree! Hope not too much else got destroyed!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Mmm ~ Nothing else destroyed, although many locals still do not have power! I guess they ran out of transformers and have to wait for factories to build them! They are being told 3 more weeks! So terrible!
