Milk Ladies 1908

Suddenly I'm feeling like I dress much too casually
while I'm doing my chores!

  1. The one doing the milking looks so proud of herself! Too cute.

  3. Willow ~ she is cute, isn't she? The bonnet is too much!

  5. I agree with willow. Notice too... she has her skirt "flared out" the way we do these days with wedding dresses.

  6. There was a day when the sight of an ankle would cause normal men to go crazy. And a milking maid...well, that would be Heaven.

  7. Just imagine having to actually wear that get up while trying to get work done. And another thing...haven't you always wondered how the heck they got all the muck out of the hems of their dresses. No telling what kind of stuff they were dragged through on a regular basis. Nope, give me a pair of stretch jeans any day!

  8. Lovely photo, but really, I cannot imagine myself doing anything but posing in those wonderful clothes. I have favorite outfits for housework, and they would never pass the camera test!

  10. Miss Nelson ~ you are right...she is posed just like that!

And Steviewren has a good point....how did they keep their clothes clean. I can't imagine trying to wash out stains in those hems that touched the ground.

  11. Abe ~ you are right! And the way we dress now sometimes leaves nothing to the imagination, huh!

  12. You'll never feel underdressed Betsy if you put on one of your pretty aprons!

  13. Lavinia ~ now why didn't I think of that! :)
