Super Balls ~ you could never
have too many!
Spirograph ~ probably my favorite!
Slinky ~ so cool going down the stairs!
The original metal ones were fragile!
One bend and it wouldn't work as well!
Silly Putty ~ such a neat texture!
And it would pick up the pictures
of the Sunday comics!
Play Doh ~ primary colors only
and no special scents yet!
Lincoln Logs ~ spent hours
building with these!
could slip into your pocket or
between the pages of a book!
try to color in the whole screen
to see the inside mechanics?
neat drawstring bags you kept
them in?
What a fun topic to blog on...I loved the slinky and the etch-a- sketch...They bring back great memories...
ReplyDeleteRebecca ~ aren't they fun?! Toys are so different now, although I think you can still buy etch-a- sketches and slinkies!
ReplyDeleteI had that exact spirograph set and loved it! As for Etch-a-sketh... I never could do much with it.
ReplyDeleteBetsy...I spent hours of my childhood with my best girl friends playing "Jacks"...sweet memories...My children had most of the other toys...we all enjoyed the etch-a-sketch...fun post :)
ReplyDeleteIn our neighborhood us kids would spend many hot summer days on each others porches playing jacks...onesies, twosies, threesies..
ReplyDeleteI tried to teach my kids how to play jacks but they were never very interested. I can still throw a mean ball and swipe up a handful of jacks before that ball bounces twice!
Good morning, thanks for your visit. You do have your hands full with five men in the house. LOL
ReplyDeleteYour childhood toys remind me of some our kids use to have. As for me, they didn't have a lot of Brand Name items when I was growing up in the late 30's and 40's If they did, apparently we didn't have them. LOL Of course we always had dolls, but they were the kind with hard heads, and sometimes if dropped the wrong way it would crack and be very ugly. Bodies were cloth. I mostly played with roller skates and a scooter.
Our nine year old Grandson was diagnosed with autism when he was much younger.
Thanks for the walk down memory lane!

This certainly struck a chord of memory...I could almost hear the creaky wheels in my mind turning with remembrance.
ReplyDeleteI had all of these toys except the three I hadn't heard of: Lincoln Logs, Super Ball, and Flatsy Dolls. Maybe they didn't sell them in Canada.
Oh I loved my Velvet doll, and my slinky, and my spirograph. I also remember the drawstring bag for the ball and jacks; but they still got lost anyway....I have no idea how that happened....you just kept having to buy more.
Etch and Sketch, no I never tried to colour in the whole screen; perhaps that was a fad in certain areas? I didn't know anyone who tried to either.
ReplyDeleteSteviewren ~ I'm so impressed that you can still play jacks! I'm not sure I would be that coordinated anymore! I remember trying to teach my oldest how to play and he never was too interested.
ReplyDeleteLady Lincoln ~ I've seen those dolls with the cloth bodies. Yes, that would be very sad to drop your dolly and crack it's head!
ReplyDeleteScooters have really made a come back recently! My oldest loved his a few years ago....now he drives, so of course, nothing can beat that! I've visited your daughter's blog about Noah. He is a sweetie! She seems like such a good mom, too.
Hi Michelle ~ thanks for the visit!
ReplyDeleteLavinia ~ I never knew anyone else who had a Velvet doll! Seems like her cousin Chrissy was the popular one! Lincoln Logs may have just been a United States thing, being made like Abe Lincoln's cabin, but I'm still surprised they didn't make it up there. I think mine were actually hand-me-downs from Willow or even The Bachelor. :)
ReplyDeletewow, days gone by for sure....
ReplyDeleteyour sidebar pictures are gorgeous!
:)

Hi Betsy...just popped over to say that the review you asked for has arrived....check it out...
ReplyDeleteP.S. I love those hollyhocks, that is a gorgeous photo!
Hee hee - this is wonderful - what a whimsical post! I loved my slinky but at some point it got a kink in it and wouldn't flop too well. A kinky slinky.
ReplyDeleteBlog Princess G ~ Oh yes, those kinky slinkys! I had a few of those, too! :) They were great going down the stairs, though, weren't they?
