Hanging Basket Bird Nest

from fabulousfifi.typepad.com

I have a yucky cold and planted myself on the sofa
today and got lost in Pinterest again. :)
I love this nest in a basket that I saw there.
I often have a bird make a nest in my hanging flower baskets
so why not just hang out a basket for them?
If I hung it on the back porch it would be easy to
see and too high for the cats.
I could even put some nest making start stuff inside.
It would kind of be like a house warming gift. ha.

    2. yes, you're first! :)

I haven't seen any birds trying to make a nest yet...I hope they have the sense to wait a while!

  3. Oh, that's adorable, Betsy. What a great idea. I keep all my ends from knitting and have them in a bag to put outside for nesting material for our birds. They are short pieces about two inches long and it will make their nests really colourful. :) Deb

    1. Well, that's fun! A rainbow nest! :) Have you ever seen any of your yarn pieces in a nest?
If this works and I get a family in there, I'll be sure and post photos!

  4. Just once. A starling with an all-earth coloured nest and just a pop of red. It made my day. :)

  5. At first I thought you had some Doves and maybe a Dovecot. Doves in a hanging basket look great but make sure they don't dive bomb you lol..
Hope your cold gets better soon. Some really dry, warm weather would be just what the doctor ordered.

  16. This is so cute. I get mourning doves nesting in about anything. One year they nested in the hanging plant right next to my back door. The activity there never ruffled her feathers! lol!

My craziest nesting experience was with ducks at the lake. At the end of the dock is a big stoneware urn and I had just planted flowers in it the weekend before. Getting up there the following weekend late at night, I went down the dock in the dark to see if my flowers were alive. I surprised a duck who had already laid her eggs in it. She squawked and flapped her wings and I nearly peed my pants!! And she stayed for weeks and weeks and of course my flowers died. End of story! :)

    XO,
    Jane

    1. Aw...Mrs. Duck loved your flower urn! Cute stories....I had one in a wreath on my front door once. That was crazy, too and she finally went elsewhere.

  17. Sorry to hear you aren't feeling good. Take good care of yourself and feel better real soon.
We had a cardinal nest in the wreath on our front door two yers ago. Couldn't use that door til they all left the nest. I love the picture of the doves... so sweet. We just got home from seeing the movie Noah. Doves played a big part in the movie. Great movie! I've heard some complaints that it isn't true to the story. But after all it's a movie inspired by the story. Has a great message and good acting.

I'm glad you liked that movie. Yes, I agree, it's a movie inspired by the story...not a documentary!
