Remember Slate? The newest feral cat to show up on my
back porch? He looked a little rough, you know.
Look at what a little TLC will do!
He hardly looks like the same cat!
He actually came in the house, had some good meals
and drank and drank and drank.
I'm sure it's hard to find water when everything is frozen!
He's such a friendly cat, very chatty, and follows me
around the house. He even used the litter box
and snuggled down on a faux mink throw on the
leather couch and took a long nap with the warm
sun streaming through the window on his fur.
He must have thought he was in cat heaven. :)
But then he'd had enough and off he went!
Maybe he overheard me saying words like vet
and neutered. haha. Hopefully he'll decide life
here is better than life on the run.

He's a new man!!!!
ReplyDeleteIsn't he? Doesn't even look like the same cat!
DeleteHe looks so content and fluffy. Have to laugh at the first photo with the backend of Socks or Jack, or one of them, coming out of his face. Hilarious! He is a very lucky kitty to have discovered the Benevolent Brock Boardinghouse. :-)
ReplyDeleteThe cats have to surround him and sniff. haha. They do that to each other, too, when they've been out. Kind of like, "Hey where have you been?"
DeleteYup - curious kitties! So does Slate make 15?
ReplyDeleteRight....I'm not ready to claim him as ours yet, though. I was so excited when that little Freckles was coming around..even letting herself in the cat flap and sleeping on our bed in the night. But I haven't seen her since September! So, we will see if he ends up being our 15th or just a passing stranger in need.
DeleteWhat a handsome boy! Staying at your house sure agreed with him.
ReplyDeleteIt's a great before and after, isn't it? Now if he'll just stay!
DeleteThis is heartwarming, Betsy. I'm just wondering how these kitties survive in the cold. My daughter has a lot of alley cats that live in their alley. Ha! Some of the neighbor men built a small shed for them filled with straw for shelter. I had always though that these feral cats lived in the south only.
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
At least in the south they aren't so cold! Before mine actually came in the house, I had two little shelters on my back porch. I even heated them with heating pads. haha. No wonder they stayed! :)
DeleteYes, I wasn't sure if he was fully one of the brood yet, or not. By the way... do Mr./Mrs. Possum try to go through the cat flap? Or any other non-feline critters for that matter?
ReplyDeleteNo non felines have come through the flap. There seems to be a cat on guard most of the time, too. ha. Maybe they know and take turns protecting the door. lol.... That last possum was small enough, though. Yikes!
DeleteI think it's great that they all accepted him. -- silver fox
ReplyDeleteMarmy is not so sure yet...
DeleteGood golly! I hardly recognized the little chap! What a transformation! He's very handsome now! I hope he decides to stay with you....he'd be a fool not to!
ReplyDeleteHow was the auction, beautiful?
Vince xo
I hope he decides to stay, too! He is full of personality...and I just love his color!
DeleteThe auction was crowded, busy and long! But always fun.... I do enjoy that job!
Oh what a sweet cat. I have 6 rescues. I hope he decides to come back. Bless you for caring for him, Betsy
ReplyDeleteYou may not know, but I have quite a few rescues. haha. (14) Three litters from two moms. All but 3 have stayed and a couple others have joined the group. So much fun and I just love them..they are so sweet.
DeleteJack must be jealous with him following you about
ReplyDeleteGiving a talkative shout
He looks much happier too
With his fluff shining on through
A perfectly respectable gentlemen now.
DeleteExcept for the snip snip, which I'll make happen some how.
ha.
haha good luck with that
DeleteMight leave him a ticked off cat
yeah, but it must be done
Deleteif he's to stay under my sun.
He'll forgive me in the long run
since he won't have daughters and sons.
haha.
Very handsome cat....I do hope he decides to come back and live with your family♥️
ReplyDeleteCheers!
Linda :o)
Me, too! Looked for him this morning but haven't seen him yet!
DeleteYou'd make a very good zoo keeper!
ReplyDeleteYou seem able to tame the wildest of animals.
He's hoping for a PAK = A Permanent Act Of Kindness
haha...that's the perfect name for my 'pak' of pets!
DeleteChalk up the Slate ... he is just beautiful ... cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteIsn't he? and he's so sweet, too!
DeleteHe looks so much more relaxed and happy! I love cats, Betsy. Even Canadian ones. I think. Well, maybe.
ReplyDelete....but you do know I'm not in Canada, right? :)
DeleteOf course I do.I was talking about Pat The Cat Hatt.....Just don't tell him. ;)
DeleteOh! hahahaha....oh geesh...don't give him a bigger head than he already has! He really isn't as famous as he thinks. lol...
DeleteAww, he's beautiful! I can't imagine that he wouldn't want to stay with this winter being as cold as it's been. Hopefully he'll be back! And I loved the previous comment referring to your place as the Benevolent Brock Boardinghouse...I think it's a perfect fit!
ReplyDeleteI know...coming into our house, which is 68 degrees from the outside at 18 degrees....It's hard to believe they go out at all! But all of mine, too....play outside every day and some are gone for a couple of days at a time. It's actually a rare thing to have them all here at once!
Deleteha. i would probably run at the mention of neuter myself....just saying
ReplyDeletedef looks more filled out...glad he had the place to stop over
and get cleaned up....
haha..yeah, can't blame him for that! haha.
DeleteThose WILD or scared eyes have calmed down and have the look of "I'm home".
ReplyDeleteThey certainly have calmed down! He looks panicked in that first shot....certainly didn't know if we were really friendly.
DeleteSlate looks very content! I hope he sticks around.
ReplyDeleteWell, guess what? He showed up about 30 minutes ago...he's napping in that same soft, sunny spot. :)
DeleteYour kind heart never ceases to amaze me! Would your local humane society help you adopt these kitties out or are they swamped there like they are here.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure they would...you can drop them off there and pay a $23 fee per cat to leave them there. But if they aren't adopted in the allotted time, they don't keep them, if you know what I mean.
DeleteEEK! I know what you mean. So sad in the fact that some folks aren't responsible for their pets and they end up rambling about or like around here their dogs tied to chains. BUT! They have to have an animal. So sad.
DeleteOur town humane society won't even take cats anymore. They complained it was taking too much gas to ... Well you know. In other words too many cats were being brought in and left. I get so upset when I think about it.
You are a good woman Charlie Brown.
Mr. Slate is beautiful. I'm guessing he hasn't moved in yet because he has places to go and things to do. Or he's trying to talk his girlfriend into moving in too. haha. He could actually belong to someone and has that pull to show up at their un-responsible door to check in. Hope he makes the move soon and stays!
JaG
Yeah, I think I like keeping them, getting them healthy, shots and neutered...at least they won't increase in population that way. And yes, he could belong to someone....I won't claim him as my own and have him neutered until it's obvious he wants to live here. Would be a shock to have him go home and show up 'fixed'! haha. But...would serve them right for not doing it. I think I've mentioned before that there is a senior citizen apartment complex near me. They put food out for the stray cats but don't really claim them or take any responsibility for them. So the strays are fed and are friendly to people, but aren't cared for in any other way...then they just continue to multiply.
DeleteNow about the dogs....I see that often, too, and wonder why they have a dog anyway...just to chain in the yard? Crazy.
Haha! He looks really proud of himself, ah Betsy he knows well where is the best lol
ReplyDeleteGood food, good house, a warm site :)
Im sure he is happy:))
He came back today for a little TLC and a nap. haha.
DeleteHow are the bunnies?
aahh! the bunnies eat all day:)
Deletegrass, lettuces,(chopped please), carrots and some pellets lol
I think he has a lovely face Betsy!
Nugget does, too! Eat and sleep...eat and sleep. haha.
DeleteHe is so HANDSOME! Lucky you- I adore all grey kitties! I hope he becomes a permanent member of the family. :)
ReplyDeleteI do, too! Anything grey. ha.
DeleteSo pleased to see Slate has returned! You must have a magic touch! He really is a handsome fellow. I hate to think of all these kitties trying to survive in the elements. But your friends are the lucky ones!
ReplyDeleteKathy from Tasmania
Isn't he pretty? I really like his personality, too. He came again today to eat and nap and then he was gone!
DeleteA handsome fellow!
ReplyDeleteOh, I think so, too! He looks manly, too, doesn't he? ha.
DeleteHe is gorgeous!!! AND..your house IS Cat Heaven...watch out...they will KEEP coming!
