bread at the grocery. I scan the clearance shelf for a
loaf of French bread and serve it for Sunday brunch.
Whisk 3 eggs, 1/2 c sugar and 1 1/2 c buttermilk together in bowl.
Pour enough vegetable oil to make it 1/8th inch deep in skillet.
Heat skillet (mine is electric) to med. high heat (350)
Soak slices of bread, both sides a few at a time, in custard for
about 30 seconds. Carefully lay in hot skillet. Flip when brown.
Serve with butter and syrup.
I make my own syrup. If you want the recipe, click HERE.
If you are going to make the syrup, start with that first, then
make the French Toast. Now if you'll excuse me, I want to
eat this while it's still hot...Mmmm.
Enjoy!

ReplyDeleteOh YUM! I want some right now ... but alas I have no bread. Will definitely be giving this a go Betsy, thanks for sharing recipe with us!
ReplyDeleteYour syrup recipe is similar to my mother in-laws syrup that she pours over a South American Semolina Pudding that she makes (can't remember the name of it now) only she adds a few fine slices of fresh orange peel to give it a zesty tang. Oh dear now my mouth is watering!
This looks yummy! Great way to start the new year!
ReplyDeleteOf course I love anything with Toast! that does look very yummy indeed--and even nutritious with the fruit salad like adornment. :)
ReplyDeleteyet another use for buttermilk! Yum!
