The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly Part 8

Because some days you need more than others,
and in the spirit of keeping it real, here's a glimpse of
recent events with my five men!
While vacuuming with the handheld attachment,
I thought I'd take the dust off The Mister's laptop
that was sitting on the dining room table.
I was horrified as I saw the "O" get sucked away!
Fortunately I saw it happen! And even though digging
through the bag of dirt and dust wasn't any fun,
I did find the missing key and it snapped back on!

****

I didn't notice that I bought grapes with seeds in them! Now I don't care for grapes with seeds, so I can only imagine how gross they seemed to autistic boys with lots of food issues...and very healthy gag reflexes! My first clue to the seeded grapes were all the seeds spit out on the kitchen floor. ha.

****

I found Taylor sleeping on the living room couch the other morning. He said when he got in bed the night before that it was full of ants. Great. Of course when I went to investigate, he had 3 days worth of dirty dishes on the empty side of his bed. Ants...duh! Smart, cute college guys can be ...well, lazy. Hopefully he learned a lesson after he changed his sheets, vacuumed, removed the dishes and sprayed bug killer. Sigh.

****

Remember me losing my hub cap on the van and Taylor miraculously finding it while he out...20 miles away? Well, as excited as we were...the tabs were broken off and it can't go back on. Poor van...it's looking pretty bad with it's naked wheel, rusty paint, possessed wipers and missing gas cap cover. The Mister says we look like the Clampetts. I think we look worse! LOL!

****

My regular readers know that my coffee maker is on my bedside table. I use it as an alarm clock and have my first cup before getting out of bed in the morning. It's a wonderful treat...unless you sit your full mug in front of you on the bed and reach a little too far for a Kleenex....spilling the whole thing on the mattress!

****

Speaking of coffee, I start saving the used grounds in a canister beside the kitchen sink every spring. When it's full, I take it out and dump them in my garden soil. In a rush last week, I quickly dumped the wet grounds...oops ....into the wrong canister! They landed on 3 pounds of newly purchased Ghirardelli chocolate chips. Oh my.

****

Yes, I'm laughing...so laugh with me! Oh my, oh my....this is a crazy, crazy life!

OK...I need more coffee....

  2. your good, bad and ugly posts always make me smile
yikes on the choc chips and coffee wet mattress.

and your son sounds like a very typical college boy - I used to cook for 2 different fraternity houses and life was never dull there either.

  3. Julie ~ when that key got sucked away I said "Oh!"...haha...not realizing that I was calling it's name! hee.

  4. Rhonda ~ I seem to recall saying something to Taylor about this not being a dorm! ha.

  5. "O" my! I like the idea of the coffee maker by your bed. I have a very hard time getting up and that might help. Glad you didn't get burned by the hot coffee : )

  6. NO! NO! NO!
    NOT the chocolate chips Betsy!!!

  7. Your are absolutly amazing, how you take everything in stride. What a great mom. Now . . . coffee by your bedside? Interesting concept to ponder.

  8. Oh...Besty...tooooo funny...
Sad about the coffee grounds 8-(
I would have alot of Good, Bad & ugly posts with my crew...
I may have to post some now & then.
    Take care.

P.S. I wish the plants around here
    where as pretty as yours...
though I would probably be sneezing away.

  9. You are one funny lady !
It's a good thing, since it seems you have to deal with lots more drama than the average mum.
What I'd give to be a guest in your house for the night, I'm sure I'd laugh my frock off, (not literally), a corny old English expression for belly laughing ;0
Your one in a million, and I like ya.

  10. Corners ~ well, I've learned to laugh at just about everything...including myself. I mean, really now...what else can you do sometimes!? hee.

  11. These posts always make me smile. We all have those "good, bad, or ugly" moments in life. If we can learn to smile, it make life so much easier. I think I'm learning this along the way... At least I didn't cry last July when my only set of van keys ended up going home to Syracuse in the bottom of some stranger's purse. I was blessed that she found them before she was scheduled to leave for "the mission field". *sigh*

  12. How can I be so rude to LOVE your Good, Bad and Ugly.

I should be feeling sorry for you, but instead I'm rolling on the floor laughing so hard, because your words give me a better picture that any words could!

Oh my, Betsy, you are just a hoot! I love coming, Oh, how I love coming, for laughs, tears, inspiration and recipes...Does it get any better than this!!??

    ReplyDelete
  13. Betsy, I meant to say your words give a better picture than a camera could!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Oh no, not in the chocolate chips....
Did you really spill the cup in the bed???? What did you say? ha
I love The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly!!!!!

  15. Yes, more coffee in deed and mix it up with chocolate. Perfect.

Who are the "Clampetts", btw? Some TV show I imagine.

I could relate to Taylor's dishes--used to do the exact same thing... as a teen though. Yes, nasty moldy mugs of tea all over the place and plates of toast crumbs. Hmmm.

I have to say, i was surprised to read you actually sifted through the dust for that key. LOL. Love your stories here.

  16. Many cute college guys grow up to have wives just like their mom, so I am sure you future daughter-in-law appreciates that he had to clean the mess up himself. :)

Pity about the chocolate chips. That would never happen in this house. A three pound container of chocolate would only be a one and half pound container of chocolate by the time I got it home from the store.

  17. i am laughing with you...coffee pot on the bedside...i still need to try this...who needs an 'o' anyway...l l

  18. Jo ~ laughing your frock off...oh, that IS a funny expression! I love it! ha.

  19. It's a good thing that coffee and chocolate taste good together. I think I would have tried washing the chips off to see if I could salvage them.

I heard on TV today that your keyboard has as many germs on it as a toilet seat! Oh My!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Nanny ~ yes...the whole mug right on the mattress! Fortunately, the pad caught it all and I just had to wash it and the sheets.

  21. Sounds like things are never dull there. I told my wife about your caffeine alarm clock, because she can't function without that first cup. She said that she had considered it but then she has to figure out how to keep cold milk there.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Matty ~ well, those little individual liquid creamers don't have to be refrigerated. I keep those and sugar packs in my table drawer. :)

    ReplyDelete
  23. I had to pop back over and suggest to Matty that a dorm sized fridge would make a perfect night stand.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Always an enjoyable and funny read. Such a sad loss of chocolate chips though.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Funny...I'm still laughing!! Thanks for that!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Betsy...I love the idea of a bedside coffee pot...That way I wouldn't have to get up and fumble downstairs for my first morning cup...and the creamers and sugar packets there, too! Wonderful!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Rebecca ~ it's a wonderful habit...I don't think I could ever give it up! And it's one special thing that I do for myself.

  28. The bit about the "O" key reminds me of when I purposely removed the "Caps Lock" key on my previous computer's keyboard. I wish computer keyboards didn't even have them sometimes, as they're too often struck by mistake... plus, there are too many people who still don't realize that writing in all caps is the internet equivalent of yelling. Maybe that key should be placed in a seldom-used area of the keyboard?

  29. Hi Betsy, I'm trying to catch up.... Life never gets dull, does it???? Glad you found the typewriter key....

We save our coffee grounds also --and put them on our compost pile.

Love the sepia train picture. My Dad worked for the railroad --so I have good memories of being around trains all of my childhood.

Those cookies look fabulous. I love peanut butter ANYTHING..... ha

AND--my Daddy used to eat orange gum-drops all of the time...

Hope you have a great week.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  30. I love this post. It makes me feel that I am not the only one with dust, ants and coffee grounds everywhere but where they are supposed to be. Can you rinse choclate chips? I think so.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Anita ~ I did rinse them in very cold water and they dried on paper towels. :) Great minds think alike!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Here's what you do Betsy. Take that letter "O". plant in in a small pot with plenty of those old coffee grounds. Water occasionally. In about three months it should have grown just large enough to fit onto your naked wheel. Sorted.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Alan ~ I agree with Mr. Fox! That is brilliant..and I lauged OUT LOUD at that one! heehee!

    ReplyDelete
  34. @Betsy: And you were even so flustered, you misspelled "laughed." What a doll.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Mr. Fox ~ Oh gosh....after our conversaton yesterday, I TOTALLY deserved that! ha.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Our "conversaton?" Oh, this is getting good! ;-)

  37. shhh...maybe we better switch to email. ha.

  38. The horror! Spilling the coffee, that is, heh, heh...

And dusty as it may seem, I'd rather dig thru' th' vac bag than a dumpster again, wot? Um...nevermind...

    ReplyDelete
  39. Subby ~ hmmmm....sounds like a story!?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Betsy~ um...yeah...about th' dumpster divin'...eeewwww!

  43. @Silver Fox~ I'll fill you in on Sunday, muwahahahaaaa! Okay, it's not too gross ;)

  44. Oh Betsy! Your stories have made my morning just a bit brighter!

I seem to recall The Mister telling me a story a long time ago about his hidden lunches and ants. It reminded me of Taylor.

    Thanks again for the laughs!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Your stories make me smile. I have a 20 year old son with autism and there is never a dull moment.

I love that you have coffee by your bedside. Me time is very important. I love a diet pepsi in bed and we have a waterproof mattress pad because of a spill here and there!

    ReplyDelete
  46. These posts are some of my favorite of yours! Ants in the bed, eeeek! Oh dear, not the chocolate chips... you'll have to make coffee-chocolate chip cookies.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Great entry. I HAVE to do the coffee maker on the bedside thing!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Magnolia ~ oh, that was a story about Taylor, too! He was about 5 years old and was throwing his PB&J sandwiches behind the couch every day. We thought he was eating them until about a month later when we had ants in a mountain of old, dry sandwiches. ha.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Fragilemom ~ Donna..yes, you MUST! You deserve a morning treat, too! :)

  50. These are great. The chocolate/coffee ground story got to me though ... This is what life looks like 'on the ground'. Such a cute way to share it -
    Bless you~
