Last month we had 20 guys over
for dinner from Taylor's high school
basketball team. We served Beef and Noodles...
so good, I made them again over the weekend!
****
1.5 lbs stew meat, trimmed and cut in 1" cubes
1 onion, chopped
4 T butter
4 t Tones Beef Soup Base (from Sams Club)
12 oz wide egg noodles
****
Saute beef and onions in butter in large stock pot.
Cover with 5 cups of water.
Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low.
Simmer 2.5 hours, covered.
Take out meat, set aside.
Add soup base and noodles.
Cook until noodles are tender.
Return meat to pot and check seasonings
I usually add some salt and pepper at this point.
Enjoy!
orchard apples from the freezer.
I used my Blackberry Crisp recipe and just exchanged the fruit.
The recipe is in the comments section of that link if you are interested!
I remember always hungry when I was teen's.
ReplyDeleteI said more meat, more rice!!
I guess they were so glad.
Kengot ~ that team ate a lot, I'm telling you! This is one of Taylor's favorites, so we figured a big group of guys would love it.
ReplyDeleteI think almost of young men love this dish and this photo.
ReplyDeleteBut now I'm thirteen's, my favorite is fish, vegetables, and beer, sometimes wine.
Yum! So basic yet sounds SO delicious. I think my guys would love this, I'm going to try it.
ReplyDeleteOne question, after the noodles are cooked do you drain off the liquid or just serve the dish with the broth?
MG ~ the noodles absorb the liquid so you don't have to do anything! Hope your guys like it!
ReplyDeleteThat looks so good! Mmm!
ReplyDeleteI should learn how to cook, but I just do not like it. I have the Irishman cooking for me and when I am alone, I stick to frozen food and cans.;)
Oh Betsy, I am ALWAYS loving beef and noodles and Nate said yours was yummy!
ReplyDeleteI think I may have to make a batch VERY SOON...would like to eat them RIGHT now...the crisp looks wonderful too...
Mmmm...comfort food. I haven't made beef and noodles since the kids were all home. This is making me so hungry. Is it lunch time yet?
ReplyDeleteI have been trying to figure what to make for supper tonight, this just might be it. I have a question about the beef soup base, though. We live in a town in the middle of nowhere with no Sam's Club in sight. Would beef stock be an acceptable substitution for the soup base. I know this will be delicious, I love your recipes!
ReplyDeleteTrishy ~ this soup base is a thick, concentrated paste. If you must substitute, I'd use beef boullion.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if you could find Tone's on the internet. It's not expensive and really great for soups and stews. It would be worth having it shipped to you!
I love stopping by here for dinner and dessert! Delicious! 20 guys for dinner????? How is it possible to cook for that many teenage guys? Take 42 lbs of egg noodles, 36 lbs of beef.....serve and stand back.
ReplyDeleteMuseswings ~ ha-ha...yes, you've got the picture! 'serve and stand back' describes it perfectly!
ReplyDeleteI love comfort foods! These look so yummy. I also love technology that lets you go back to an entry almost a year ago and retrieve a recipie. Thanks again for your helpful blog posts and your very inspiring pictures. I am hungry just looking at them today!!
ReplyDeleteThat's a lot of hungry mouths to feed, well done! Love the pudding.
ReplyDeleteCJ xx
betsy
ReplyDeletethat is a lot of basketball players you must have tripled it right?!
is he a senior this year?
ELK ~ I think I made 4 batches that day! Those hungry guys came back for seconds and thirds!
ReplyDeleteYes, he's a senior!
It all looks delicious, wish I had some here now, so I wouldn't have to prepare dinner.
ReplyDeleteThat looks super yummy. I think I see that on a future menu at my house!
ReplyDeleteI'm starving now! I'm going to go poke through my fridge:)
ReplyDeleteYummy! How my mouth is watering!...My son has progressed in one year from eating 1 1/2 pieces of pizza to half of a medium pizza and he's just 10 1/2...I know..Just wait until he hits his teen years, right?....
ReplyDeleteall looks so incredibly yummy!
ReplyDeleteMy broth turned into a gravy?
