sitting on a stack of pool towels on the back porch.
With a closer look, I noticed that he had a sticky
spider web all caught around his wings and back legs.
To my surprise, he let me clean him up and carry him out
to my garden. I knew that they like to eat garden pests
and was hoping he would munch on a few before flying
away! Well, to my surprise, he has stayed in our yard
all summer. I've seen him on many occassions, bug in
hand, having lunch! One evening he was on our back
screen door looking at us as we sat on the sofa watching
television! What a fun memory. He's like a little friend!
Oh, he's repaying your kindness with a kindness of his own!
ReplyDeleteWe're quite fascinated with Praying Mantises at our house... every since we discovered one living in bush outside of out front door. They are fascinating insects, aren't they?!
Love your crabapple header!
I love that story, especially because I'm not fond of spiders. I'm amazed that he let you clean him off, and it's like mod girl said, now he's repaying your kindness.
ReplyDelete~ Kayren
They are such amazing creatures...so interesting to see up close like that.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the crabapple tree photo...so pretty to look at as you wash up!
MG~ they really are amazing! I love how they turn their heads and look right at you! They seem so intelligent!
ReplyDeleteKayren ~ oh,if he had been a spider, I wouldn't have gone anywhere near him! I truly have a phobia in that area!
ReplyDeleteJill ~ That crabapple tree is growning...ALMOST blocks the neighbors! ;) I saw on someone's blog that they made crabapple jelly! Who knew!...I'm going to buy the pectin and give it a try!
ReplyDeletethis made me smile ~ tell me you gave him a name ;)
ReplyDeleteI've always loved these funny looking creatures! Awesome story.
ReplyDelete~Reese
elk ~~ I just call him Mr. Mantis! :)
ReplyDeleteMr. Mantis is so handsome!
ReplyDeleteMe, too, love the new header! :)
I love praying mantises. we don't see them around here much anymore. I miss them.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet story! He loves the beautiful garden of a caring woman!
ReplyDeletewhat a delightful story. i am a little creeped out by praying mantis and the ay they look at you. i've had this creepy feeling about them since i was very young. but i love that you took care of him and that he has become a friend in YOUR garden. hee hee
ReplyDeleteI've never met a praying mantis, but they are fascinating. And if you're going to have a little insect friend watching over you, it's nice that he's praying. :) Wonderful picture!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet story. He is probably so appreciative he will stay around. When we are good to God's creatures it says a lot about us. I, too, love your new header. So pretty.
ReplyDeleteThat's kind of sweet... they seem to be every where this year! But I'm like Julie, there's something about them I just don't quite trust...they seem more preying than praying sometimes!
ReplyDeleteJulie ~ funny...don't worry...I won't send him your way! ;)
ReplyDeleteAwww, that is so cute. How sweet of you and how nice that he stuck around. I had one in my car one day, right by my head, and I didn't think they were that cute then! I almost made my husband wreck because I wanted him to pull over now!
ReplyDeleteRozilla ~ I do agree that they seem a little creepy. I think they seem more aware of us..with the turn of their head and the way they look right in your eyes. But he is very kind and not afraid of me!
ReplyDeleteBetsy, it's like you are the hero in an Aesop's fable...The Praying Mantises and the Kindly Gardner. And the moral of this story is....hmmmm, I'll get back to you on that. : )
ReplyDeleteStevie ~ Oh, I don't know that one! Hopefully I will have good luck or 3 wishes granted or something fun like that! ;)
ReplyDeleteWow, you must have been awfully gentle with him. I'm sure he will be back to visit.
ReplyDeleteCJ xx
Hey, I'm the freak that likes snakes, so I can't really talk. (Well, maybe not freak - but my mom does say there's something heathenish about it!)
ReplyDeleteI love this picture and this story. What is his name?
ReplyDeleteGreat picture and story....I believe we have a few PM left in the garden as well.
ReplyDeleteAren't these things just too much??
ReplyDeleteI have always loved to watch them.. and yours is probably a she, the males don't last very long you know!! It's great that she has found a home with you!!
Thanks for sharing your life.. You are an amazing Mom!! I praise God for people such as you!!
