OK. These are so stinkin' cute, I can't stop smiling at them! ha.
Have you noticed how popular owls are right now?
I pinned a cute photo of owl cookies in the fall and
didn't find the time to bake them.
So for Christmas, I thought
snowy owls would be even better!
Any shortbread recipe will do.
Roll out 1/2" thick.
3" and 1" round cookie cutters.
Decorate with M&Ms and whole almonds.
Bake 350 for 20-25 minutes until just golden on edges.
Dust with powdered sugar while still warm.
Clean off beak and eyes with a tiny damp pastry brush.
♥
Owls are everywhere
ReplyDeleteSee them at many a lair
Seem to have just sprouted about
I guess they beat a singing trout
Cute indeed
At your feed
#1
DeleteEven gave some a chance under your sun
Don't you wish you'd thought of it?
DeleteAnd made a big profit?
Who decides when a craze should start?
and then every one else just does their part?
ha.
First you are!
Beat everyone by far.
I posted early
nobody was ready with the lurky lurky.
lol.....
lol they lurky lurky?
DeleteI guess they were cooking turkey
Yeah wish I thought of it
Not sure who decides this umm spit
yes, a few of them lurk
Deleteand admit it with a smirk!
My name is Vince and I'm a lurker. (smiling)
DeleteSorry it doesn't rhyme, chap. But Mr. Bluelights is giving you a run for your money with the rhyming!
I do like me some owls, lol!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYes, you certainly do!
DeleteYou can paint them...I'll stick to baking them. ha.
Whoo whooo
ReplyDeleteHow cute.
You're a hoot! ha.
DeleteI can't stop smiling either... those are so adorable. I thought I was through baking, but those are just to darling not to make. The dish you have them in is so perfect for the display. This is the "fun" of Christmas!
ReplyDeleteYou're right...this is the fun part! All the hustle and bustle is done. You know, I only made half dozen of these...really quick, all on one cookie sheet...just enough to add some cuteness to the table without it being a lot of work.
DeleteCute cookies? What's next? Ha.
ReplyDeletequirky cookies? :)
DeleteHow wise you are to see that owls are so cute and so popular! These are incredibly cute. I wonder how long they will last! Not very long I would bet. Only 3 more sleeps!! xx
ReplyDeleteThey might have to make another appearance as the winter goes on. :) Yep...only three more sleeps. My Spencer cannot contain himself any longer. I wish I could send him off to school tomorrow! lol....
DeleteI can imagine that he will be up at 3 am prowling round the tree, desperate to start the ripping!! How lovely though to have someone who is so enthusiastic about Christmas!! Better than a load of wet blankets I reckon. xx
DeleteHe kept looking in the stockings today...all 6 of them. lol...they are empty,...still. Sigh. I'm sure he was so disappointed. :)
DeleteCute enough! as they say in southern Indiana! They make me smile!
ReplyDeletehaha...I usually say, "Too cute!" :)
DeleteWell, me too, but we're talkin' about southern Indiana here. cute ENOUGH. The emphasis is on ENOUGH!
DeleteI like it! I may have to start saying that! ;)
DeleteDo I spy a little feather arm on the one on the right?
ReplyDeleteYeah, they have wings and feet imprinted in the dough.
DeleteWhat a hoot! They are very cute and look yummy. Tom baked sugar cookies today. They were great with egg nog.
ReplyDeleteI've had Tom's sugar cookies....yum! Are you hosting the kids and grands or going there?
DeleteWe're going to one on Christmas Day and hosting one after. Are you having the newlyweds?
DeleteYes, we are! Both Eve and Christmas Day...then they are flying to her family later that night.
DeleteI think if those owls were on my plate
ReplyDeleteThey'd not stay long in their present state
'cause before my coffee I'd had time to sup
I'd swoop down quickly to eat 'em up.
They look a long way too yummy
To stay for long outside my tummy
Which is a shame 'cause they look nice
But taste buds quickly they entice
Perhaps I might try to bake some
In what ever way you make um.
LOL
If I don't see you again have a great Christmas, Betsy
LOL! or should I say ROFL? :) Cute poem about my cute cookies. haha.
DeleteI'll be thinking of you on Christmas Day, Ed....I hope you have a great day, despite some undoubted emptiness.
Big hugs! Kiss that grandson for me! :)
Thanks, Betsy.
DeleteIf I eat a lot of Owls will I be wiser for it? LOL . . . . . or will I start saying "Twit twoo!" ? LOL
Wiser? I don't know! We could all munch on a bunch and find out! Did you know a group of owls is called a parliament? :)
DeleteDidn't know that, Betsy! Thanks for that information - A parliament of owls, eh!
DeleteHowever, the bunch of idiots we have in our parliament in no way can be described as wise - they are just a hoot!! with no wisdom whatsoever.
So maybe they're a stable of barn owls, instead? lol...
DeleteHighly UNstable I would say!
DeleteWell I must retire to the land of nod before I turn into a night owl LOL
Goodnight!
good night! :)
DeleteI see the owls are still on the plate LOL
DeleteThey are I think what you call "Cute Hoots"
They're like the loaves and the fishes...you take one, and another one appears! :) haha....
DeleteAh! a REPLICATING OWL!! LOL Not heard of that species before. Not sure they would taste well with loaves and fishes though LOL.
DeleteJust wondered! Has the postman arrived from UK yet? He is taking his time it appears.
No, nothing from the postman yet. Are you sure you didn't send it by owl? lol....
DeleteHoot Hoot! - very clever! LOL. Do I detect a dash of Harry Potter with his owl deliveries? Perhaps Proffessor Snape has confiscated it or the owl was mugged by a gang of thieving magpies!! ROFL.
DeleteI expect it will arrive soon.

DeleteSomehow I duplicated the last comment - must be as blind as an owl!! LOL
Deletecute. cute. cute.
ReplyDeletei'd still eat it though...ha.
ladycat said hoot. lol.
We're all sounding a little coo coo, aren't we? ha.
DeleteSending you a virtual owl cookie to eat....
Stinkin' cute? You know who is cute, don't you? It's you, milady. And what a simply gorgeous photo of your cute little owls.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the others that they may be cute, but not too cute to eat. I'd be scarfing them down with a cup of tea without hesitation!
I don't suppose they would travel well in a parcel, would they?
Vince. x
I was pretty happy with that photo myself, so thank you! :) Don't you say stinkin' over there? ha. If you say scarfing, you can say stinkin'. lol....
DeleteNot sure how those birds would travel. They might lose an eye or two. :)
A broken wing or two wouldn't hurt the taste any! Yes, I'm hinting! Well, no, not hinting but out right making a fool of myself by asking for a parcel of biccies! You have my address. Or send them with Santa so I don't have to wait on the damned postal service! (smiling)
DeleteI pretty sure Santa goes to your country before mine. :) Besides, aren't you just getting coal this year? lol....
Deleteas for making a fool of yourself...I have no comment. Not at all. None. Nope. Nada... ;)
Ah, well it isn't the first time!
DeleteSpeaking of owls, one of my uncles lived in Mexico for several years while doing research for his job. He had a family of owls that lived in his garden in a very tall tree. Back at that time we couldn't send photos by phone or internet, of course, but he would develop his own film and mail our family pictures of those owls! Thanks for jogging my memory! I hadn't thought of it in years!
Sweet!
ReplyDeleteCheers!
Linda :o)
:)

DeleteThey are beautiful cookies, Betsy! Merry Christmas to you and your family!
ReplyDeletethanks, Pat! Hope you have a lovely holiday, too!
DeleteOh how cute! I'll copy this great idea. Owls are very popular in Germany this year, too. But first some more wrapping of gifts... and the creme brulèee for our Christmas dinner.... and phoning some friends. I have to keep myself busy today. A very close friend of mine undergoes extremely risky brain surgery today. So, if anybody can spare a little prayer, please, please dedicate it to him. Thank you all and forgive me Betsy, that I used your blog for my plea. I hope, you do not mind!
ReplyDeleteChristel
Of course I don't mind...praying right now...keep me posted!
DeleteThank you so much, dearest Betsy! And we thank God, that our friend survived the 6 hours of surgery! The doctors, who had said before, that the chance of survival was 50%, afterwards said, that everything went well. For all of his friends, but especially for his wife and for their five children this is CHRISTMAS! Peace on earth and great joy...
DeleteBlessings
Christel
Oh, that's great news! :) A wonderful Christmas gift to them! Thanks so much for letting me know!
DeleteTasty looking owls, Betsy. Wishing you and yours a peaceful Christmas, from me and mine.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Martin.....you're the best. :)
DeleteAdorable! And, I'll bet, delicious. Merry Christmas, Betsy.
ReplyDeleteI love shortbread...no matter what shape it's in! :) Merry Christmas, Janice...and to all of your critters, too.
DeleteHope you have a lovely day...are you traveling or hosting? Traveling, I'm guessing with your kitchen under construction. :)
Merry Christmas to you Betsy
ReplyDeleteMay you and your family have the best one ever!!
Thanks, Lady! I hope you have a lovely holiday, too!
DeleteOh my gosh, they're adorable! I wondered how you kept the eyes and beak so neat and clean, that's a great tip. Merry Christmas to all of you!
ReplyDeleteI adore these!! I rescued an owl 20 years ago, and have been interested in them ever since. Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteYou rescued an owl? Oh, I'm so jealous! :) Thanks for stopping by!
