He Won!

Some of you may remember last fall when
I entered Jack in a Cutest Pet Photo contest.
Well, he won!
I need to stop in to my orthodontist and pick
up the prize...a $150 gift card to PetSmart!
I can't think of a zoo more worthy
(and needy) than mine.  haha.

At least he can say that he earns his board and keep!
What a good kitty!

Thanks to all of you who voted for him, too!
We couldn't have done it without you!

All of our other cats adopted us, as you know...
feral cats from the neighborhood just wanting food
and water.  But Jack was found in town outside an
office building.  He was just a baby, near death
in the July heat...starving and dehydrated.
After three days of hearing him cry from the
bushes, someone we know called and asked if
we would be interested in taking him in.
And the rest is history.

You know, he still can't meow!  I think he permanently
injured his vocal chords crying for his mom.
He lets out a little squeak, sounding something
like a rusty hinge on a door.
Kinda cute and quirky. ha.

I'm glad we were able to put a happy ending on his story.

And you know, he still does crazy antics every day
like jumping into the frig.  He's so full of personality.
What a sweet pet he is!

  4. Yeah for Jack! (And of course you too for your wonderful photography skills and keen eye.)
We once had a kitten who squeaked rather than meowed. We called her Squeak. We kept her for a little while and then heard of a grieving man who was looking for a companion and so she went to live with him. I heard she was well loved.

  6. YEAH!!! Jack is a hands-down winner (in so many ways).

I am very happy that you will receive the prize.
Mrs. Doolittle you are loved. Jack proved it the best way he could, by being himself.

  17. LOL...I was going to ask if he was in the refrigerator and then I read the end of your post. I am tickled that you won. Very deserving with taking Jack in as a baby and caring for him. Jack's a lucky kitty.
He sounds a lot like my sweet dear departed cat of 21 years as of last Spring. She had no meow....just a squeak so she was named Mouse. :) A funny quirky little tiny cat. Jack is so photogenic! Whenever we took photos of Mouse she always looked so mad. :) Have a wonderful week Betsy and congratulations.xo

  19. Congratulations to Jack! Yes, he IS earning his keep :-)

I think it's interesting how our cats each have their own 'meow'. No matter why they're vocalizing, one sounds like he's sad, the other sounds like he's ticked off.

    1. yes, that is true...some here are loud and make everyone pay attention and others rarely meow and have such tiny soft voices!

  23. Congrats Betsy! I'm so happy that Jack won and I don't know anyone more deserving of a pet shop gift card than you and your zoo! (I guess the rhyming is contagious...lol) My female cat, Sassy, doesn't meow either -- she just makes little squeaky sounds. She was a stray in our neighborhood for a few weeks before we took her in and I'm guessing she wore out her vocal cords asking to be let in at all the doors she visited. Glad that you're enjoying Jack and his antics so much!

    1. thanks, Dawn. :) Aw, Sassy sounds like a sweetie. How lucky she is to have found you! The squeaks are endearing, I think. Our Socks has the quietest little meow...sound so funny coming from a large cat. haha.

  28. Congratulations to you and your top model! You did a brilliant job as a photographer as you always do and Jack is such a cute boy! I am especially touched by the story of his being rescued. How very lucky he was to find such a good place to live. You must be a very nice person, Betsy! But I know, if you have a heart, it is hard to send a homeless kitty away, once it has made it to your doorstep. I have three of them at home myself... "Purzel", the cat from my header, whom you mentioned to me, is one of them. He turned up last winter, very shy and sick, with bleeding eyes. We fed him and cured him and he has lived in our conservatory ever since, as my two ladies won´t have him in the house and he gets panicky himself, when he comes in and I close the door. So he comes to the kitchen door for his meals and he now likes to be caressed and whenever I approach him he behaves very funny: he immediately throws himself on his back and just before my feet, rolls around on the floor and looks up at me kind of worshipping. Obviously Purzel is and probably will be the only male being, which will ever do that for me...
