Little Wren

I always feel bad for the wrens that hang around
our yard all winter looking for food!
They don't eat seed and search for dead insects
left in spider webs, nooks, and crannies!

I happened to read that they liked meal worms
and hung a little bucket of them in my crab apple tree.
It only took this little guy a couple of minutes to find it!

  7. Sorry, city boy here, but what are meal worms and where do you find them? Were they alive? How did you gather them up?

    1. haha...well city girl here didn't know either! They are dried and I got them at Kroger in the pet food aisle. They come in a bag, already caught, dried, etc....thankfully. lol.... They are crispy little things...I told the mister that the raccoons got them the first night and it was probably like chips or popcorn to them! hahaha....

  10. Wrens always look so sweet don't they? It's hard to believe anything can be so small. They are really territorial - that's why they sing so loud. And - a really good point - they eat spiders. I wish we could have a house wren to sort us out here. This is an amazingly spidery house.

    1. They are super loud! You can hear one all over our neighborhood when our windows are open!
We had a few spiders come in when it first got cold. Thankfully, I haven't seen any in a few weeks! Ick!

  17. There are always a few robins who stay thru winter also and they are like the wrens in their food preferences. I feed them dry cat food (placed in a sack and pounded to crumble it up so it's easier for them to beat) and dried fish food. They really like the shrimp flavor :)
