Star, Rescue Kitty, at Two Months

We've had Star two months as of today!
To celebrate, we had a photo shoot.
She wasn't impressed and scowled...haha...
so unlike Slate, who poses so well!
Star is almost always by my side.  She's a curious girl
and likes to be in the middle of everything that is going on!
Some of the other cats are still leery of her, but I've seen
some friendly and affectionate head nudging going on
between Star and the others, so that is a good thing!

She eats very well and loves her packaged
'milk for cats' I get at the grocery.
But she refuses all table scraps ..even the beloved
rotisserie chicken, but she is putting on weight!
This week I added a lysine powder for cats to her diet to help
boost her immune system.  She still gets weepy eyes and I
read that it is good for that.  I'm giving her a good brushing
every day, which she loves and her coat is looking 1000%
better!  She doesn't groom herself...isn't that strange?
I haven't figured her out completely, but we're getting there!

She's looking good, isn't she?
Even with that serious face. ha.

  1. I see she's getting to grips with photography. Are you training her up as an assistant?

    2. Oh yes. Are you allowed to make a call?

    3. It doesn't look like it, does it! But if it buzzes with a text, she might have a fright! haha...

    4. If I had your phone number..... but I expect she's moved by now!

    5. I wonder if she'd like those kale crisps with cherry drizzle. haha...

    6. Yes, she's moved...phone is able to breath now. :)

    7. No. Those males crisps are just too weird.

    8. ***ing iPad! Kale. Not male. Some days the predictive text is even weirder than kale crisps

    1. She's really made herself at home...has her favorite spots around the house and when she is outside, she doesn't venture too far.
She's actually feeling nice to pet now...her bones don't feel like they are just under her skin...so much better!

  5. She is such a pretty cat. A wonderful rescue story with so many things you don't know about. Our border collie was a rescue and there are things he just is frightened about no matter what. He was always concerned we were going to hit him in the face and after a year, he quit ducking. Now he lays his head on either of us and expects long times of petting. Again Star looks so great.

    1. Aw, that just tugs at my heart. It does take them a while to realize you are kind. For the first month, Star wouldn't let me touch her tail. I have a feeling she got it pulled. And she wasn't sure what my hands were going to do...she's back away and then realize I was going to pet her. My heart melted the first time I picked her up and she relaxed and nuzzled into my neck. Aw. Love how your dog wants long pets now. Poor little things! They have good homes now. :)

  6. What a difference Before and After... I remember when she came and looked so sad and scruffy. You have made her a princess and I know she loves you for it.

  7. Awww, this makes me teary... again... but in a good way! She looks sooooo much better, Betsy. And I love how she snuggles with you and follows you like a wee puppy. What a success story. So happy you were her rescuer - she could not have landed in a better spot. xox <3
Please give her a petting from me!

    1. She does have a happy ending! When that lady knocked on my door and said she had a rescue cat at the vet and needed a home asap, I really didn't know what I was getting myself into. haha and at that point I said I wouldn't take her if she was contagious. But it all worked out. She could have been a harder animal to deal with...and saying yes without even seeing her was a big step of faith...haha...but I did ask tons of questions and it just felt like it was meant to be. I just can't imagine being cruel to an animal..much less one you voluntarily took into your home as a pet...people can be so horrible! I need to contact that lady and send her a picture of Star. I'm actually surprised I haven't had her call in and see how she is! I'm sure she'd be thrilled to see the progress.

    2. Absolutely a big step of faith. And I sort of feel she was meant to be in terms of Peaches. Not that any kitty "replaces" another, but the timing seemed destined. It's funny, I was going to ask about the lady who contacted you. I was wondering if she'd been in touch to ask after Star. I'm sure she'd be thrilled at her transformation!

    4. I've said that a few times....she came and was a pleasant distraction to my sadness at Peaches not coming back.
Speaking of that kind of thing, you know my Domino went missing about a month ago. Last week The Mister came home and said that he almost brought home a little kitten that was in a storm drain at the hospital where he works. We have had torrential rains and it obviously was washed away but survived and was below the storm grate crying. The hospital maintenance men got in there and rescued it. They were looking for takers for it and a couple of nurses said they might be able to take it. He told them if it didn't work out for either of them that he would take it. But they didn't need him to, so all is well. But I had to tease him that he's as much of a rescuer as I am! haha....he said "Well, I thought it could replace Domino!" haha...

    5. Aw, too sweet - I am smiling about the Mister. You are quite the pair! Glad the wee one found a home. I was wondering if Domino had resurfaced. He's a lovely kitty.
      Yup, Linda... I am!

  9. Why groom herself when she has you?
haha you can do it at your zoo
    Weird that she doesn't though
Even the most dirty cats do it once in a while at their show
    But looking way better indeed
As she follows you around like a pup at your feed

    1. I keep thinking as she gets healthier here
that she will begin to at least wash her ears!
But she doesn't seem to want to clean,
lick, wash or even preen! lol....

    2. lol that is weird indeed
Maybe the others help her at your feed

  12. She's turned into a beautiful girl !
I notice she has her ear "tipped" as in the feral cat spay and neuter program....was she a feral ?
Some cats are lazy when it comes to grooming, she knows you'll do that for her ...lol

    1. She must have been feral to have had her ear tipped. But she's declawed...so someone had her as an indoor pet at one time.
The lady who brought her to me found her as a stray outside on a bridge and found a home for her...but that home turned abusive and starved her for sport, from the bits and pieces I could gather from her story. She felt odd about the place and went back to check on her several times and then finally convinced them to let her have the cat back. From there she took her to the vet and 14 days later I got her.
So.... I thinks she's been everything..feral, loved, stray, abused, rescued!

So pleased to see she's improved so much and still doing so .... I love the way she follows you everywhere ... and am so glad she's finally found a loving home - cheers Hilary

  15. The second brightest Star in Cedarville! (You are number one of course. . . . )
Perhaps Star's mother never taught her how to groom herself, or never had a chance to?
Anyway, why should she groom herself when she has you to do it for her? Ha!

  16. Star surely is a star, so dadblasted sweet and looking even prettier than your last pictures of her..It is because you love and adore her and feed her well and brush her and have a home for her...if only others could be so loving..Our little ginger girl is filling out quite nicely and we got 2 a/c units and she lays spread out on the sofa with my hubs and the other two in rooms with huge fans and or the kitchen on huge donuts for kitteh cats enjoying the air..we had to get the a/c units our home got to be 107 one day and I thought I was gonna go on the rainbow bridge LOL, Hoping for a cool down soon, I still cook and clean in the early morning hours and we only open the fridge for the cool foods and water I have in massive jars with lemons and limes floating in them..Take care, your sweet Star is adorable because of your love and affection and attention! So happy for you getting air conditioning! Yes, I would think that 107 in the house would be a bit too much! It's amazing how much more energy you have when you aren't exhausted from the heat....easier to sleep at night, too! I can just see your kitties sprawled out and enjoying it, too!

  17. Cool front but massive humidity came thru today, but the humidity made it seem like a sauna, ha! used the a/c and the hubs Elli and the kitteh cats, miss cody and miss ginger and mr. miyagi sprawled out in the rooms to chill, I cooked and baked and got everything done for a wicked week of high heat and humidity the weather people say it will be a dry and cool winter but no ice, snow and rain, oh, my goodness sakes alive, the lovely rain in the pacific northwest makes it so nice, now we are experiencing Arizona years and they get the rain go figure..Take good care of yourself and your hubs and your boys and your sweet kitteh cats too!
