Random Thoughts

  1. I suppose it's time to put Mr. Penguin away for awhile.  He'll be back in the winter with his wonderful sparkly iciness.   If I let him stay out any longer, I'll have to put an Easter garland around his neck. ha.  Although we woke up to snow this morning.  Just sayin'.
  2. Taylor is away this week to girlfriend Lauren's home in Pennsylvania.  It's spring break for them. :)  I miss him a lot.  But I did notice that there is a lot less laundry, the bathroom mirror is cleaner, and nobody is eating the leftovers. And we've been eating all the things he hates...omelettes, salmon, meatloaf. ha.  Hurry home, buddy.  It's not the same without you!  xo
  3. At least once a week Alex takes his morning meds, then walks over and immediately throws them up in the kitchen sink.  Then he turns on the faucet and leaves it running as he leaves the room.  I give him a second round after waiting a bit to make sure his stomach has settled down.  I don't really know why he does this...usually he immediately starts eating breakfast, so I don't think he feels sick!  But this morning he did something different.  He threw them up...I know because he was looking nauseous and standing at the sink with the water still running.  I made a mental note to give him a second round before leaving for school.  Then as I was zipping up the lunch boxes, he walked over to Spencer's meds and took them!  That's a first!  Or is it?  Maybe he's done that before and we didn't know it?  Maybe we thought Spencer took them?  A note came home from school saying that Alex was cranky in the afternoon and was shoving people.  Hmmm.  It was then that I realized I was so shocked that he took Spencer's meds (and we gave Spencer new ones) that I didn't give Alex his one anti-rage drug. Spencer doesn't take it!  Confused yet?  Boy, I was. lol.
  4. I'm craving York Peppermint Patties.  :)
  5. I'm getting that spring cleaning itch.  Just looking at my closet this morning and noticing that pairs of socks had hopped over from their bin into the underwear bin and vise versa made me realize that some of the organization has gone haywire.  ha.  I should start soon.  Could take a while to get through the entire house. Our carpets are way overdue for a steam cleaning, too!

So what about you?
And random thoughts running through your mind?
Surely I'm not the only one! ha.

    1. It's always been one of the more stressful things...we've been through a lot...especially when they were small and couldn't swallow pills. You have to be very creative. And trying new meds and tracking the progress between all three is a full time job. haha. But this was a new one today. Oh dear.

  4. wow that is quite a bit to keep straight but I'm sure you do it well! I love peppermint patties too, the York brand. Yummy! the kids baked choc chip cookies tonite. I'm NOT going to eat any! ha

    4. well I very much doubt that! the doctor told me some good things today. that may or may not strengthen my resolve :) the truth is I'm not hungry. but I've been known to eat cookies just because I want to so this IS a little unusual for me. haha

      Delete
    5. well, it's always great when the doctor says good things!
and I'm impressed with your willpower!

Just cleaned out my closet, and making room for some summer clothes that have been packed away in a drawer.

Taking Aunt Trula Wed. so we can both get a pedicure....need some new sandals.

Sorry to hear Alex had to upchuck his meds... Not fun!!

  8. Sorry that Alex threw up his medicine - my son has done that on occasion but not very often. At least you got confirmation that his anti-rage drug is working.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. yes, that is a very good point!

Alex does this often and we've thought of every scenario from what he ate for dinner, what supplement might not agree with him, how much water he takes with it, taking them before or after breakfast...everything. It's a mystery. It would help a lot if he could talk and tell us exactly what he feels.

yes...at least we know it's working! And I'm glad it was only a shove. ha.

      Delete
    2. We haven't been able to figure out any pattern either. Kai talks, but usually he is only able to say "I'm sick!" just before he throws up.

Yes, glad that it was only a shove.

      Delete
    3. No throwing up this morning, Yuji...but he snuck and took not only his own meds, but Harry's, too! ...very quickly before The Mister could even react. It's always something around here! lol. I don't think it will hurt him. The only prescription that got doubled was his prozac. But still...we've laid out their meds for years and they have taken their own just fine.

      Delete
    4. Glad he did not throw up this morning. Ha, now you will get another unwanted experiment on how he reacts to more prozac. So, he is on both prozac and risperidone? Are all three of them on the same meds?

      Delete
    5. Yes, all three have taken prozac (morning) and risperidone (night) for 14 years now. We've tried many, many other meds but those two seem to work the best. Their meds are identical except for Alex taking Naltrexone for his rage. The other thing they take is a methyl vitamin B12 injection 3 times a week (given by me) which made a big improvement in concentration and eye contact.

I doubt the extra prozac today will do anything. At least he won't be depressed. lol. :)

      Delete
    6. Thanks for the info Betsy. I know meds like these can often have different effects on different people, but it is still interesting to know what is working for someone else.

We have been doing the B12, too, though it is hard to say how it is working.

Ha, hopefully he will be feeling good with the extra prozac.

      Delete
    7. yes, each child is different. That's what makes it such a complicated puzzle!

Our doctor told us it would take three months before anything could be seen from the B12 injections. We marked it on our calendars and didn't tell their teachers/aides that we were doing it. And almost to the very week at the 3 month point, she wrote home and said that they had a super week and seemed to be able to concentrate better and look them in the eye. haha. That was a nice confirmation. The injections were hard to give at first, though. Very stressful for all involved, but they do it just fine now. Kai is ok with them?

      Delete
    8. When he was younger, we did the injections after he fell asleep and, remarkably, he did not wake up. For the past year or so, we have been doing it in the morning after he wakes up. He resisted at first, but now he knows that it is better to cooperate.

      Delete
    9. Oh good. It's always so much nicer when they decide to cooperate. lol. We never attempted to give them while they were asleep, although I remember that being one of the recommendations. We did a year or so of some detox foot patches, though, that we put on after they were asleep. Sometimes they would wake up when I stuck them on and pull them off. And I usually did find them thrown on the floor come morning. haha.

      Delete
    10. We never tried the foot patches. I could see my son pulling them off, too. :)

Gotta run. Catch your next post later!

  11. Perhaps Alex swallows his meds too fast and they cause a gag reflex which make shim vomit? Maybe you can space them out a little or crush them up so he can swallow them in something soft he likes to eat?

I have so much to do that I know Spring cleaning will be late this year..it may be summer cleaning ..lol!

  12. haha you should keep the penguin in case Dez goes on the attack
    Down at your shack
They'll think your one of them and leave you be
    Going to climb a tree
Wow you confused the heck out of me with the meds too
Don't know how you ever keep it straight which ones needs to come due
    LOL the order one
I can relate to under my sun
But everything is still all nice and neat
So no need for a spring cleaning beat

    1. I'll just set Mr. Penguin on the front porch
to ward off Dez and his search.

Spencer went searching for hidden suckers I guess-y.
lol. I've been known to hide presents in my closet
he must have felt one was due a deposit.

And to confuse the meds even more
Alex took his today and Harry's galore.
Crazy kid. Instead of none he doubled it today
no wonder my hair is turning grey.

Are you going to create a post
letting us know who will now host
Easter since the bunny is no more
      after road rage did soar?
      lol....

      Delete
    4. LOL maybe that is their secret agenda at your sea
      To make you go crazy..hahaha

I will have to give that a go
      When easter decides to show
Keep moving it around and confusing the cat
Maybe the new easter bunny will stop that..haha

      Delete
    5. Well, you know how bunnies like to multiply
maybe you'll find his descendants by and by
one who will take up the mantel...er, um basket
and agree to take on the task...it.

      Delete
    6. Too big of a task for the cat
Plus all that chocolate would make the cat fat
So some descendent would have to be found
Unless Nugget wanted to carry the basket around..haha

    7. A black lop-earred Easter bunny
now that sure would be funny!

oh dear...I laughed OUT LOUD at that. I'll see how he likes a basket around his neck. Maybe all of his eggs would be chocolate? But I'm sure since you're a friend, you'd get
chicken nuggets and turkey bacon. hee.

    3. Hope the kids have a good first day at school!

I agree about the shower...in fact, I take mine at night. I like to be clean and relaxed to fall asleep. Sometimes in the summer if it's really hot and I've been working outside, I take an extra one!

I need to start on laundry, too. And my kitchen floor is really needing to be mopped. I keep ignoring it but it is just getting worse! haha.

I want a piece of your pie for breakfast! haha.

Only one of mine takes them, although he takes several 3 times a day, and when any of his meds are changed it throws me! I'm sure keeping track of who takes what and administering them is a full-time job for you!

And you have me craving peppermint patties -- they've always been a favorite of mine too. Now if I could just start craving spring cleaning ....... lol!

    1. Except for Alex throwing his up occasionally, I thought we were on a good routine with the meds. This taking your brothers is something new. But he's a neat freak and I think it might have something to do with him just wanting the ramkins (that we put the pills in) to be empty so he can put them away. He's been known to take wrappers off of food ..not to eat the food...but to throw the wrapper in the trash. I'm sure that is what it is. Good grief. Now you see why I get a cup of coffee in me even before I get out of bed? lol. I have to be alert! hahaha.
